I have a missed call! It is from a number I do not recognise.
This is always worrying. It could have been anyone. Is it someone I know who has got a new mobile? Is it a family member in trouble calling me from a spare mobile phone they found lying by the side of the road? Could it be Fergie calling me up to replace Roy Keane? Or it could just be a wrong number.
In the past, a wrong number was something to look forward to. When my older sister was out painting the town pink she used to give out wrong numbers every week. Thankfully, her friends were on hand to correct her - "No your number starts 555 not 554" - which left me answering the phone to every Tom, Dick and Harry who had tried to pull her.
Call 1: "No Sorry, I don't know anyone by that name."
Call 2: "No its me again. Hope you get the right number next time."
Call 3: "Look I don't know who this Slapper is, but it's obvious she hasn't given you the right number."
With mobile phones storing more phone numbers than ever before, there is no excuse for dialing a wrong number. Unless of course you're dialing at 6:40AM on a cold Monday Morning and are wearing gloves. Maybe I should call them back and tell them they have got the wrong number. But I shouldn't really have to use my own minutes. Maybe I should text them?
I sit and wait for them to call back.
