I like Paris. Its a nice city. I was there over New Year. Here's a photo of their version of the Blackpool Tower. I went two thirds of the way up it but my legs turned to jelly and I stayed with my mum and ate crepe rather than going to the top. They should've got the Olympics in 2012. It really sticks in my throat that London has the games. Obviously the Olympic Committee did not see through some of the blatant spin in their campaign. Let me translate some of their myths for you:

• The games would be good for Britain - The games would be good for London - British = English = Southern = Londoner
  
• All of Britain wants the games - Tony thinks it would put him in place for a fourth election win and only Londoners want it.
  
• The transport in London is great - Well it will be once we divert all the money from the Metrolink into building a transport system that won't be operational until 2012 and will only be used for the 3 weeks the games are on.
  
• It will be good for the sporting nation of Britain - You wanna improve the sporting nation? Well how about investing some of the money into building decent training and changing facilities for the teams in the Womens North West Regional League Division 3 instead of pampering the southerners.
  
• All our stadiums will be ready in time - but you better bring a brolly just in case, like Wembley, we don't get the roof on time.
  

Ok so its all sour grapes. Manchester should have hosted the games in 1996 and / or 2000 (only we didn't compete / bribe as well as Atlanta and Sydney). The bloody London centric government weren't interested in it then were they? They have David Beckham, HRH Liz Windsor and Tony Blair supporting them. We had Sir Bob Scott and Bobby Charlton. They have the FA Premier League, the NHS and the Metro newspaper supporting it. We had Coronation Street, Chorley FM and Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council. And a quick survey of Torontonians, shows that they too suffered from a lack of support for their bids in 1996 and 2000.

Not that I'm bitter. But the last thing the world needs is more over confident wide boy cockneys (Maxwell on BB6?). In one swoop the Olympic Committee has reinforced the view that London is superior to everywhere.

If I was a member of anything important I'd be resigning in disgust!
